Scholarship Winners

IEI awards scholarships to graduating seniors, one-time renewal scholarships for undergraduate students and to Alpha Kappa Alpha women pursuing a graduate degree.  To apply to any 2024 IEI scholarships, click here.

The timeline for IEI Scholarships is as follows:

○ February – Scholarship applications will be available online

○ March – Scholarship applications close

○ Early April – Scholarships reviewed by the committee and Scholarship interviews will be conducted

○ Mid April – Scholarship recipients will be notified

○ Mid May/Early June – Scholarship recipients must attend the Annual Scholarship Presentation.

Late applications will not be accepted.  Deadline:  March 29, 2024

All applications must be submitted online.  Please be sure to answer all questions or mark N/A where not applicable.  See below for more information concerning the scholarships that we award.

Scholarships for Graduating Seniors
IEI Graduating Senior
These scholarships support the postsecondary educational endeavors of local graduating seniors. To qualify, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a young woman of African American descent graduating from a high school in central Indiana
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher Have proof that she has been accepting to a college or university
  • Demonstrate community service and leadership experience

To complete the application, students must provide the following information. Please note that all information must be scanned and uploaded into the online application form:

  1. Two letters of recommendation
  2. An official transcript from the high school.
  3. A college acceptance letter
  4. A brief essay (250 words or less) about the following topic: “Describe an area in your life where you’ve demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles, either in your school, social or family life.”
  5. Headshot (no selfies please)

IEI Vera Forte McCainVera Forte McCain Scholarships

The Vera Forte McCain Scholarships were endowed to ensure scholarship funding for women of Alpha Kappa Alpha who were pursuing their graduate education. Scholarships are released when funding is available.

To qualify for a Vera Forte McCain Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a member of the Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Have proof that she is attending graduate school

To complete the application, students must provide the following information. Please note that all information must be scanned and uploaded into the online application form:

  1. An official transcript from the college or university
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. A brief essay (250 words or less) about the following topic: “As a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha, how do you continue to be of service to all mankind?”
  4. Headshot (no selfies please)

Renewal Scholarships

IEI Renewal

Periodically, IEI provides one-time renewal scholarships to previous scholarship recipients who are pursuing undergraduate education. Renewal scholarships are based on funding availability.

To qualify for a renewal scholarship, students must meet the following qualifications:

  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Have proof that she is attending a college or university
  • Have received an IEI scholarship within the last four years
  • Demonstrate community service and leadership experience
  • Been a previous IEI scholarship recipient

To apply for a renewal scholarship, the student must provide the following documents:

  1. An official transcript from the college or university
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Provide a letter that she is currently enrolled in school full-time (If awarded)
  4. A brief essay (250 words or less) about the following topic: “What has been your greatest accomplishment since receiving your initial Ivy Endowment scholarship?”
  5. Headshot (no selfies please)
